Red light cameras, and how long was that yellow?

For the first time in 30 years, the Institute of Transportation Engineers is reviewing a proposal that could become a recommended standard for determining the proper duration of a yellow light signal.  Going into the formula is not only the actual speed of the traffic, but also the incline of the roadway and drive perception and reaction time.  This is all made more critical today because of red light cameras and possible litigation.
