How Big is a Trillion?

 Excerpting from Fr. Larry N. Lorenzoni, S.D.B., writing in this month’s (Sept. 2012)   “Mathematics Teacher” magazine:

One trillion dollars is 1,000 billion dollars, a sum that staggers the imagination.  If you could spend one million dollars every day since the beginning of the Common Era (about 734,000 days), you would spend significantly less than one trillion dollars.…

No human being has ever been able to count to a trillion for the simple reason that if you could utter one number every second, it would take you 32,000 years to count to one trillion…

Think about that!
