“Angle of Repose”, Explained

The angle of repose is the angle that a pile of free flowing material forms with the horizontal when streamed from above onto a flat surface.  The angle is mostly a function particle size, shape, and moisture content, and will  be different for different materials.  For instance, sand, wheat, and salt will all have different angles of repose.  The values are not exact and will vary from case to case.  Note some tables give a range of values for each material.   A table of values for several materials can be found at:     http://www.planetseed.com/node/19783
